Sunan Ibn Majah 4084 (Book 36, Hadith 159) #33439
Pledging Allegiance to the Caliph of Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the coming of black banners from the east and how people should pledge allegiance to them, even if it means crawling over snow.

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah said: "Three will fight one another for your treasure, each one of them the son of a caliph, but none of them will gain it. Then the black banners will come from the east, and they will kill you in an unprecedented manner". Then he mentioned something that I do not remember, then he said: "When you see them, then pledge your allegiance to them even if you have to crawl over the snow, for that is the caliph of Allah, Mahdi".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be loyal and obedient to those appointed by Allah; Remain steadfast in your faith; Prepare for any situation; Pledge your allegiance even if you have to crawl over snow.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about a time in the future when three sons of caliphs will fight for a treasure but none will gain it. Then, black banners will come from the east and they will kill people in an unprecedented manner. The Prophet Muhammad then said that when this happens, people should pledge their allegiance to them even if they have to crawl over snow because this is the caliph of Allah, Mahdi. This hadith teaches us that we must be loyal and obedient to those who are appointed by Allah even if it means going through difficult times or hardships. It also teaches us that we must be prepared for any situation and remain steadfast in our faith no matter what comes our way.
