The Best Supplication

SUMMARY: The Prophet (SAWS) taught a man that the best supplication is to ask Allah for forgiveness and safety in this world and the hereafter.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "A man come to the Prophet (SAWS) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what supplication is best?' He said: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness and to be kept safe and sound in this world and in the Hereafter'. Then (the man) came the next day and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what supplication is best?' He said: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness and to be kept safe and sound in this world and in the Hereafter'. Then (the man) came the third day and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, what supplication is best?' He said: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness and to be kept safe and sound in this world and in the Hereafter, for if you are forgiven and kept safe and sound in this world and the Hereafter, you will have succeeded'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that asking Allah for forgiveness and safety in this world and the Hereafter is one of the best supplications we can make. It was narrated by Anas bin Malik, who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). He said that a man came to him three times asking what is the best supplication he should make, and each time Prophet Muhammad answered him with “Ask your Lord for forgiveness and to be kept safe and sound in this world and in the Hereafter”. This hadith emphasizes on how important it is to seek Allah’s mercy, protection, guidance, love, blessings, help etc., as these are essential elements of our lives. We should always remember that no matter how hard life gets or how many mistakes we make; if we sincerely ask Allah for His mercy then He will forgive us. Furthermore, seeking safety from Him means trusting Him with all our matters; knowing that whatever happens has been predetermined by Him so it must be good even if it doesn’t seem like it at first glance.
