The Reward of Good Deeds

SUMMARY: Every good deed of a person will be rewarded by Allah, except for fasting which is solely for Allah and He will reward it.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger : of Allah (SAWS) said: "Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied for him, between ten and seven hundred times for each merit. Allah said: 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward for it'." (sahih)
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَوَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ يُضَاعَفُ لَهُ الْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ ‏.‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ إِلاَّ الصَّوْمَ فَإِنَّهُ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that every good deed done by a person will be rewarded by Allah. The reward can range from ten to seven hundred times the merit of the action. However, fasting is an exception as it is solely done for the pleasure of Allah and He will reward it Himself. This hadith encourages people to do good deeds in order to receive rewards from Allah and also reminds them that fasting is an important act of worship which should not be taken lightly as its rewards are only given by Him.
