Sunan Ibn Majah 3707 (Book 33, Hadith 51) #33061
Seeking Permission to Enter a House

SUMMARY: Seeking permission to enter a house is done by saying SubhanAllah, Allahu Akbar and Al Hamdulillah, and clearing one's throat.

It was narrated that Abu Ayyub Ansari said: "We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, (we know) this (greeting of) Salam, but what does seeking permission to enter mean?' He said: 'It means a man saying SubhanAllah, and Allahu Akbar and Al Hamdulillah, and clearing his throat, announcing his arrival to the people in the house".

QUICK LESSONS:
Say 'Subhanaallah', 'Allahu akbar' & 'Alhamdullilah' when seeking permission before entering someone's home & clear your throat afterwards .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how one should seek permission before entering a house. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when seeking permission, one should say "SubhanAllah", which means "Praise be to Allah". Then they should say "Allahu Akbar", which means "God is the Greatest". Finally, they should say "Al Hamdulillah" which means "All Praise be to God" and clear their throat. This shows respect for the people in the house as well as for God. It also serves as an announcement of one's arrival so that those inside can prepare themselves accordingly.
