Sahih al-Bukhari 3455 (Book 60, Hadith 122) #3300
Obedience to Caliphs After the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) is informing the people that after him, there will be no prophets but Caliphs who will take his place and they should obey them and fulfill their rights.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The Israelis used to be ruled and guided by prophets: Whenever a prophet died, another would take over his place. There will be no prophet after me, but there will be Caliphs who will increase in number". The people asked, "O Allah's Messenger ! What do you order us (to do)?" He said, "Obey the one who will be given the pledge of allegiance first fulfill their (ie the Caliphs) rights, for Allah will ask them about (any shortcoming) in ruling those Allah has put under their guardianship".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey your leaders, Fulfill your duties towards them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of obedience to the caliphs after the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ informed his companions that after him, there would be no more prophets but instead, caliphs would take his place and it was important for them to obey these caliphs and fulfill their rights as Allah will ask them about any shortcomings in ruling those Allah has put under their guardianship. This hadith teaches us that we must always obey our leaders and fulfill our duties towards them as this is a part of our faith in Islam. We must also remember that Allah holds us accountable for how we treat those He has put in authority over us so it is important for us to always show respect towards our leaders even if we do not agree with all of their decisions or policies.
