Modest Clothing and its Importance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised Sufyan bin Sahl not to let his garment hang below the ankles as Allah does not like those who do so.

It was narrated from Mughirah bin Shu’bah that the Messenger of Allah said: "O Sufyan bin Sahl, do not let your garment hang, for Allah does not like those who let their garments hang below the ankles.’"
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنْبَأَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ يَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ سَهْلٍ لاَ تُسْبِلْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْمُسْبِلِينَ

This hadith is about the importance of modest clothing. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised Sufyan bin Sahl not to let his garment hang below the ankles as Allah does not like those who do so. This hadith teaches us that we should dress modestly and cover ourselves properly, especially when it comes to our lower body parts such as our legs and feet. We should also make sure that our clothes are neither too tight nor too loose, but fit properly on us.
