Kindness and Compassion of the Prophet ﷺ

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ showed kindness and compassion to Suhaib by offering him food despite his illness.

It was narrated that Suhaib said: "I came to the Prophet and in front of him there were some bread and dates. The Prophet said: 'Come and eat.’ So I started to eat some of the dates. Then the Prophet said: 'Are you eating dates when you have an inflammation in your eye?’ I said: 'I am chewing from the other side.’ And the Messenger of Allah smiled".

Show kindness towards others regardless their circumstances or illnesses; Be mindful when interacting with people who are ill or have disabilities so as not to cause them any further harm or discomfort; Offer food out of kindness; Smile at someone's cleverness; Respect other's feelings even if they are ill/disabled/have a different opinion than you etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the kindness and compassion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was narrated that Suhaib came to visit the Prophet Muhammad and in front of him there were some bread and dates. The Prophet offered him some food even though he knew that he had an inflammation in his eye. Despite this, he still offered him food out of kindness. When Suhaib started eating from one side, the Messenger of Allah smiled at his cleverness in avoiding further irritation to his eye. This hadith teaches us that we should always show kindness towards others regardless of their circumstances or illnesses. We should also be mindful when interacting with people who are ill or have disabilities so as not to cause them any further harm or discomfort.
