Drinking Etiquette

SUMMARY: When drinking, one should not breathe into the vessel and should move it away when taking a breath.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "When anyone of you drinks, let him not breathe into the vessel. If he wants to continue drinking, let him move the vessel away (in order to breathe) then bring it back, if he wants".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِذَا شَرِبَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلاَ يَتَنَفَّسْ فِي الإِنَاءِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعُودَ فَلْيُنَحِّ الإِنَاءَ ثُمَّ لْيَعُدْ إِنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about proper etiquette when drinking from a vessel. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when someone drinks from a vessel they should not breathe into it. If they need to take a breath while drinking then they should move the vessel away before doing so and bring it back if they want to continue drinking. This teaches us to be mindful of our manners and respect for others even in small things like this. It also shows us that we can learn valuable lessons from everyday activities which can help us become better people in our lives.
