The Unlawfulness of Intoxicants

SUMMARY: Intoxicants are unlawful and it does not matter what vessel they are made in.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ud that the Messenger of Allah said: "I used to forbid you from making Nabidh in certain vessels, but a vessel does not make something unlawful. All intoxicants are unlawful".
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقِ بْنِ الأَجْدَعِ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنِّي كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ نَبِيذِ الأَوْعِيَةِ أَلاَ وَإِنَّ وِعَاءً لاَ يُحَرِّمُ شَيْئًا كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the unlawfulness of intoxicants. It was narrated by Ibn Masud that the Messenger of Allah said that he used to forbid people from making Nabidh in certain vessels but a vessel does not make something unlawful. All intoxicants are unlawful regardless of what vessel they are made in. This hadith teaches us that we should stay away from any kind of intoxicant as it is forbidden according to Islamic teachings and laws. We should also be aware that even if an intoxicant is made in a certain type of vessel, it still remains forbidden and unlawful for consumption or use.
