Eating Etiquette

SUMMARY: When eating, take from the food that is in front of you and do not take from what is in front of your companion.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "When food is served, eat from that which is in front of you, and do not take from what is in front of your companion.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Take only what's in front of you

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us how to behave when we are eating with others. He said that when food is served, we should only take from the food that is in front of us and not to take from what is in front of our companions. This teaches us to be respectful and mindful of others while we are eating together. We should also be aware that taking too much can leave less for our companions, so it's important to be considerate when taking food for ourselves. Additionally, this hadith encourages us to practice good manners at all times, even during meals.
