Saying the Name of Allah Before Eating

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught 'Umar bin Abu Salamah to say the name of Allah before eating.

It was narrated that 'Umar bin Abu Salamah said: "The Prophet said to me, when I was eating: 'Say the Name of Allah, the Glorified and Exalted.’"
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ لِيَ النَّبِيُّ ـ ـ وَأَنَا آكُلُ ‏ "‏ سَمِّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

This hadith teaches us that we should always remember to say the name of Allah before we eat. It is important to remember that everything we have comes from Him and He is the one who provides for us. This hadith also reminds us to be mindful of our manners when eating, as it was narrated by 'Umar bin Abu Salamah, a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We can learn from this hadith that even when we are alone, it is important to remember our manners and not forget about God's blessings upon us.
