The Significance of 'Aqiqah for Newborn Boys

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised to perform an 'Aqiqah for a newborn boy, which involves shedding blood and removing harm from him.

It was narrated from Salman bin 'Amir that he heard the Prophet say: "For a boy there should be an 'Aqiqah, so shed blood for him and remove the harm from him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform an Aqiqa for newborn boys

EXPLANATIONS:
An ‘Aqiqah is a ritual performed by Muslims when a baby is born, usually involving the sacrifice of an animal such as a sheep or goat. This hadith suggests that this ritual should be done for newborn boys in particular, as it will help to remove any harm that may come their way. It also implies that the shedding of blood is part of this ritual, although it does not specify what kind of blood should be shed. This could mean that the animal sacrificed during the ‘Aqiqah should have its throat cut in order to release its lifeblood, or it could refer to something else entirely. Whatever the case may be, this hadith emphasizes the importance of performing an ‘Aqiqah for newborn boys in order to protect them from potential harm and ensure their safety and wellbeing.
