Sunan Ibn Majah 2983 (Book 25, Hadith 102) #32337
Sacrificial Animals and Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised those who had a sacrificial animal with them to remain in Ihram, while those who did not have one were allowed to exit Ihram.

It was narrated that Asma’ bint Abi Bakr said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah in Ihram. The Prophet said: 'Whoever has a sacrificial animal with him, let him remain in Ihram. Whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him, let him exit Ihram.’ She said: 'I did not have a sacrificial animal with me, so I exited Ihram, but Zubair had a sacrificial animal with him, so he did not exit Ihram. So I put on my regular clothes and came to Zubair, and he said: 'Go away from me.’ I said: 'Are you afraid I am going to jump on you?!’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Be prepared for religious obligations & duties
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of having a sacrificial animal when entering into the state of ihram. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised that if someone has a sacrificial animal with them they should remain in ihram until they complete their pilgrimage. However, if someone does not have a sacrificial animal with them then they are allowed to exit ihram and put on their regular clothes. This hadith teaches us that it is important to be prepared for our religious obligations and duties so that we can fulfill them properly. It also teaches us the importance of being respectful towards others even when we disagree or are upset with them as demonstrated by Zubair's response towards Asma’ bint Abi Bakr.
