Sunan Ibn Majah 2909 (Book 25, Hadith 28) #32263
Performing Hajj on Behalf of an Elderly Person

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman asking the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) if she can perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father, to which he replied positively.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that his brother Fadl was riding behind the Messenger of Allah in the morning of sacrifice (ie, the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah), when a woman from Khath’am came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot ride. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes, because if your father owed a debt you would pay it off".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of performing Hajj for those who are able to do so. It also highlights the importance of helping others in fulfilling their religious obligations. The hadith narrates that a woman from Khath’am asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if she could perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father who was unable to ride due to his age. To this question, the Prophet ﷺ replied positively and said that it was permissible as it would be similar to paying off a debt owed by her father. This hadith teaches us that we should help others in fulfilling their religious obligations and not let any obstacle come in our way when it comes to doing good deeds for Allah SWT and His creation.
