Sunan Ibn Majah 2850 (Book 24, Hadith 98) #32204
Stealing from War Spoils is Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against stealing from the spoils of war, as it will bring shame and ignominy in this life and punishment in the hereafter.

It was narrated that 'Ubadah bin Samit said: "The Messenger of Allah led us in prayer on the Day of Hunain, beside a camel that was part of the spoils of war. Then he took something from the camel, and extracted from it a hair, which he placed between two of his fingers. Then he said: 'O people, this is part of your spoils of war. Hand over a needle and thread and anything greater than that or less than that. For stealing from the spoils of war will be a source of shame for those who do it, and ignominy and Fire, on the Day of Resurrection.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not steal even if it is something small like a hair

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was warning his companions against stealing from the spoils of war. He demonstrated this by taking a hair from a camel that was part of their spoils and asked them to hand over anything greater or lesser than it. He then warned them that those who steal will be shamed in this life and punished on the Day of Resurrection with Fire. This hadith teaches us that we should not take what is not ours, even if it is something small like a hair, as Allah knows all our actions and will punish us for our wrongdoings. We should also remember that we are accountable for all our actions in both this life and the hereafter, so we must strive to do good deeds at all times.
