Sunan Ibn Majah 2678 (Book 21, Hadith 64) #32032
Blood Money Paid by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) paid the blood money for a man killed in Khaibar, even though the killers were not witnessed.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather, that : Hawayyisah and Muhayyisah , the sons of Mas'ud, and 'Abdullah and 'Abdur-Rahman the sons of Sahl, went out to search for food in Khaibar'.Abdullah was attacked and killed, and mention of that was made to the Messenger of Allah . He said: "Will you swear an oath and establish your right to blood money?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah , how can we swear an oath when we did not witness anything?" He said: "Do you want the Jews to swear that they are innocent?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah , then they will kill us too". So the Messenger of Allah paid the blood money himself.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for justice and fairness even when it is difficult or inconvenient; Be merciful towards those who are wronged or oppressed; Follow Allah's commands; Respect others' rights; Uphold truthfulness; Show compassion towards others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about an incident that happened in the city of Khaibar. Four men went out to search for food and one of them was attacked and killed. When this news reached the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ he asked if they wanted to swear an oath to establish their right to blood money but they said no because then the Jews would kill them too. So instead, the Prophet ﷺ paid it himself as a sign of justice and mercy towards those who were wronged. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for justice and fairness even when it is difficult or inconvenient for us to do so. We should also be merciful towards those who are wronged or oppressed as this is what Allah expects from us as believers in Him and His Messenger ﷺ .
