Sunan Ibn Majah 2627 (Book 21, Hadith 13) #31981
Blood Money for Killing by Mistake

SUMMARY: Killing by mistake is equivalent to intentional killing and the blood money for it is one hundred camels, of which forty should be pregnant she-camels in middle of their pregnancies.

It was narrated from Abdullah bin 'Amr that the Prophet said: "Killing by mistake that resembles intentionally, is killing with a whip or stick, for which the blood money is one hundred camels, of which forty should be pregnant she-camels in middle of their pregnancies, with their young in their wombs". Another chain reports a similar hadith.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take responsibility for your actions, Respect other people's lives
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the consequences of killing someone by mistake. It states that if someone kills another person unintentionally, they must pay a certain amount as compensation or ‘blood money’. The amount is one hundred camels, forty of which should be pregnant she-camels in the middle of their pregnancies with their young in their wombs. This hadith teaches us that we must take responsibility for our actions and accept the consequences even if we make a mistake. We must also respect other people’s lives and not take them lightly as Allah has given us life as a trust from Him.
