Sunan Ibn Majah 2452 (Book 16, Hadith 17) #31804
Cultivating Land and Sharing Resources

SUMMARY: It is better to cultivate one's own land or give it to someone else for free, rather than not doing anything with it.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever has land, let him cultivate it (himself) or let him give it to his brother (for free, to cultivate it), and if he does not want to do that, let him keep his land".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make use of your resources, Share your resources with others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encourages us to make use of our resources and share them with others. The Prophet ﷺ advises us that if we have land, we should either cultivate it ourselves or give it away for free so that someone else can benefit from it. If neither of these options are possible, then we should at least keep the land in our possession. This hadith teaches us the importance of making use of our resources and sharing them with others in order to benefit society as a whole. It also reminds us that even if we cannot do something productive with our resources, then at least they should not be wasted by leaving them unused.
