Sunan Ibn Majah 2391 (Book 15, Hadith 2) #31743
The Virtue of Selfless Charity

SUMMARY: Charity should be given without expecting anything in return.

'Abdullah bin 'Abbas narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "The likeness of the one who gives charity then takes it back is that of a dog who vomits then goes back and eats its vomit".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity without expecting anything in return
EXPLANATIONS:
Giving charity is an act of generosity and kindness that is highly praised in Islam. It is a way to show gratitude for the blessings we have been given, and it should be done with a pure heart and no expectation of reward or recognition. This hadith serves as a reminder that charity should not be done with any ulterior motives, such as wanting to gain fame or recognition from others. Instead, it should be done out of selflessness and humility, with the intention to please Allah alone. The Prophet Muhammad likened those who give charity then take it back to a dog who vomits then goes back and eats its vomit - an image which conveys how disgusting this behavior is considered in Islam.
