Sahih al-Bukhari 3289 (Book 59, Hadith 98) #3145
Avoiding Yawning

SUMMARY: Yawning is from Satan and should be avoided.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Yawning is from Satan and if anyone of you yawns, he should check his yawning as much as possible, for if anyone of you (during the act of yawning) should say: 'Ha', Satan will laugh at him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Suppress your yawns when you feel them coming on

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that yawning is from Satan and if we do it, we should try to suppress it as much as possible. If we don't, then the devil will laugh at us. This hadith teaches us that even something as small as a yawn can be associated with evil and so we must take care to avoid it. We must also remember that the devil is always looking for ways to make us slip up and so by being aware of this hadith, we can protect ourselves from his influence.
