The Importance of Charity

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of charity and how it should not be taken advantage of.

Abdullah bin Unais said that he and Umar bin Khattab were speaking about Sadaqah one day, and: Umar bin Khattab said: "Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah when he mentioned Ghulul with the Sadaqah (and said): 'Whoever steals a camel or a sheep from it, he will be brought carrying it on the Day of Resurrection?' " Abdullah bin Unais said: "Yes".
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ سَوَّادٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ مُوسَى بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحُبَابِ الأَنْصَارِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أُنَيْسٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ، تَذَاكَرَ هُوَ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَوْمًا الصَّدَقَةَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ حِينَ يَذْكُرُ غُلُولَ الصَّدَقَةِ ‏ "‏ أَنَّهُ مَنْ غَلَّ مِنْهَا بَعِيرًا أَوْ شَاةً أُتِيَ بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَحْمِلُهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُنَيْسٍ بَلَى

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of charity and how it should not be taken advantage of. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Unais and Umar bin Khattab who were discussing Sadaqah one day. Umar mentioned that he heard the Messenger of Allah say that anyone who steals a camel or sheep from charity will have to carry it on the Day of Resurrection. This hadith serves as a reminder for us to be mindful when dealing with charity and not take advantage or steal from it as we will have to face consequences in the afterlife.
