Number of Cattle for Sacrifice

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught about the number of cattle that should be given as a sacrifice.

Abdullah narrated that: the Prophet said: "For every thirty cattle, Tabi or Tabi'ah and for every forty a Musinnah".
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ السَّلاَمِ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ خُصَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ فِي ثَلاَثِينَ مِنَ الْبَقَرِ تَبِيعٌ أَوْ تَبِيعَةٌ وَفِي أَرْبَعِينَ مُسِنَّةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the number of cattle that should be given as a sacrifice. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that for every thirty cattle, one should give a Tabi or Tabi'ah and for every forty one should give a Musinnah. A Tabi is an offering made to God from livestock such as cows or sheep while a Musinnah is an offering made from camels. This hadith teaches us to be generous in our offerings to God and shows us how important it is to follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
