Fasting on Fridays

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade fasting on a Friday unless it is combined with the day before or after.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade fasting on a Friday unless it (is joined to) the day before or the day after".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَحَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلاَّ بِيَوْمٍ قَبْلَهُ، أَوْ يَوْمٍ بَعْدَهُ

This hadith is about fasting on Fridays, which was forbidden by the Prophet Muhammad. He said that one should not fast only on a Friday, but rather combine it with either the day before or after.
