Sunan Ibn Majah 1632 (Book 6, Hadith 200) #30984
Reverence for the Quran

SUMMARY: This hadith speaks of the reverence and respect that companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had for the Quran, to the extent that they were careful in their speech even with their wives.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "We used to be guarded in our speech even with our wives at the time of the Messenger of Allah , fearing that Qur’an may be revealed amongst us, but when the Messenger of Allah died, we began to speak freely".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have respect for Allah's words .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar speaks of how during the time of Prophet Muhammad, his companions were so reverent and respectful towards the Quran that they would be careful in their speech even with their wives. This shows how much respect and reverence they held for Allah's words. They feared that if they spoke carelessly, it may lead to revelation of a verse from Allah's book. After Prophet Muhammad passed away, this fear was no longer present and thus people began speaking freely again. This hadith teaches us to always have respect for Allah's words and not take them lightly or speak about them without caution or thoughtfulness.
