Sunan Ibn Majah 1620 (Book 6, Hadith 188) #30972
Choosing Between This World and the Hereafter

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was given the choice between this world and the Hereafter when he fell sick, and upon his last illness, he recited a verse from the Quran.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'There is no Prophet who fell sick but he was given the choice between this world and the Hereafter.’ She said: 'When he became sick with the illness that would be his last, (his voice) became hoarse and I heard him say, "In the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His grace, of the Prophets, the true believers, the martyrs, and the righteous.’" 4:69 Then I knew that he had been given the choice".

Strive to make choices that will benefit us in both worlds - this life as well as in our afterlife; Be grateful for all of Allah's blessings on us; Make wise decisions for our future.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Aishah tells us that when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) fell ill, he was given a choice between this world and the Hereafter. When his last illness came upon him, his voice became hoarse and he recited a verse from Surat Al-Nisa in which Allah mentions those who have been blessed with His grace. This indicates that Allah had granted him with His grace to choose between this world and the hereafter. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to make choices that will benefit us in both worlds - this life as well as in our afterlife. We should also remember to be grateful for all of Allah's blessings on us so that we can make wise decisions for our future.
