Wailing is Not Allowed in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that wailing is not allowed in Islam.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah from the Prophet regarding: "And that they will not disobey you in Ma’ruf (all that is good in Islam);" he said: "(It is about) wailing".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، مَوْلَى الصَّهْبَاءِ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ ‏{وَلاَ يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ}‏ قَالَ: ‏"‏ النَّوْحُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that wailing is not allowed in Islam. It was narrated by Umm Salamah from the Prophet (ﷺ). The term ‘Maruf’ refers to all that is good and permissible according to Islamic teachings. Therefore, this hadith implies that we should obey Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) and refrain from doing anything which goes against Islamic teachings. We should also remember that Allah knows best what is good for us and He will reward us for our obedience to Him.
