Forgiveness Through Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that angels descend and ascend from Heaven in turns, and they all assemble together at the time of Fajr and 'Asr prayers. If one says "Amin" during prayer, their past sins will be forgiven.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said, "Angels keep on descending from and ascending to the Heaven in turn, some at night and some by daytime, and all of them assemble together at the time of the Fajr and 'Asr prayers. Then those who have stayed with you over-night, ascent unto Allah Who asks them, and He knows the answer better than they, "How have you left My slaves?" They reply, "We have left them praying as we found them praying". If anyone of you says "Amin" (during the Prayer at the end of the recitation of Surat-al-Faitiha), and the angels in Heaven say the same, and the two sayings coincide, all his past sins will be forgiven".

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ‏ "‏ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ يَتَعَاقَبُونَ، مَلاَئِكَةٌ بِاللَّيْلِ وَمَلاَئِكَةٌ بِالنَّهَارِ، وَيَجْتَمِعُونَ فِي صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ الَّذِينَ بَاتُوا فِيكُمْ، فَيَسْأَلُهُمْ وَهْوَ أَعْلَمُ، فَيَقُولُ كَيْفَ تَرَكْتُمْ ‏{‏عِبَادِي‏}‏ فَيَقُولُونَ تَرَكْنَاهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ، وَأَتَيْنَاهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ

EXPLANATIONS:

This hadith teaches us about the importance of prayer in our lives. It is narrated by Abu Huraira that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that angels keep on descending from and ascending to Heaven in turn, some at night and some by day. All of them assemble together at the time of Fajr and 'Asr prayers. When they leave us, Allah asks them how they have left His slaves; they reply that they have left them praying as found them praying. Furthermore, if anyone says "Amin" during prayer at the end of reciting Surat-al-Fatiha, then their past sins will be forgiven as long as it coincides with what the angels say in Heaven. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for us to pray regularly so we can receive forgiveness for our sins through this act alone. It also shows us how powerful our words are when we say “Amin” during prayer; if it coincides with what is said in Heaven then all our past sins will be forgiven!
