Sunan Ibn Majah 1395 (Book 5, Hadith 593) #30747
Seeking Forgiveness from Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that if one commits a sin and then performs ablution, prayer and seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah will forgive them.

It was narrated that 'Ali bin Abu Talib said: "If I heard a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah , Allah benefitted me with it as much as He willed, and if I heard it from anyone else, I would ask him to swear me an oath, then if he swore an oath I would believe him. Abu Bakr told me and Abu Bakr spoke the truth that the Messenger of Allah said: 'There is no man who commits a sin then he performs ablution and does it well, then he prays two Rak’ah,’ (one of the narrators) Mis’ar said: 'then performs prayer and seeks the forgiveness of Allah, but Allah will forgive him.’

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform ablutions; Pray two Rakah prayers; Ask for forgiveness from Allah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of seeking forgiveness from Allah after committing a sin. It was narrated by Ali bin Abu Talib that the Prophet Muhammad said that if someone commits a sin and then performs ablution, prayer and seeks forgiveness from Allah, they will be forgiven. Ablution is an important part of Islamic ritual purification which involves washing certain parts of the body with water. After performing ablution, two Rakah prayers should be performed to seek repentance for sins committed. Finally, one should ask for forgiveness from Allah in order to receive His mercy and blessings. This hadith teaches us that no matter how big or small our sins are, we should always seek repentance through prayer and asking for forgiveness in order to receive God's mercy.
