Sunan Ibn Majah 1364 (Book 5, Hadith 562) #30716
Closeness to Allah in the Last Half of the Night

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the last half of the night is closer to Allah than any other hour.

It was narrated that 'Amr bin 'Abasah said: "I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who became a Muslim with you?’ He said: 'A free man and a slave.’ I said: 'Is there any hour of the night that is closer to Allah than another?’ He said: 'Yes, the last half of the night.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Spend time praying and worshipping during last half of night .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we can be closer to Allah by spending time in prayer and worship during the last half of the night. The Prophet Muhammad was asked who became a Muslim with him and he answered that both free men and slaves did so. He also said that there is an hour of the night which is closer to Allah than any other hour - this being the last half of it. This shows us how important it is for us to spend time in prayer and worship during this period as it will bring us closer to our Creator. We should strive to make use of this time as much as possible so that we can reap its rewards both in this life and in the hereafter.
