Sunan Ibn Majah 1163 (Book 5, Hadith 361) #30515
The Adhan During the Time of Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Mu adh-dhin would call the Adhan during the time of the Prophet Muhammad and many people would stand and perform two Rakah before Maghrib.

'Ali bin Zaid bin Jud’an said: "I heard Anas bin Malik say: 'The Mu ’adh-dhin would call the Adhan during the time of the Messenger of Allah , and one would think that it was the Iqamah because there were so many people who stood and performed the two Rak’ah before the Maghrib".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect prayers by standing up when you hear an announcement related to it .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how during the time of Prophet Muhammad, a caller to prayer known as a Mu adh-dhin would call out an announcement known as an Adhan. Many people in response to this announcement would stand up and perform two Rakah before sunset prayer or Maghrib. This shows us that even in those times there was a great respect for prayer and religious practices among Muslims. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our religious duties and take them seriously by responding quickly when we hear an announcement for prayer or any other religious practice.
