Maintaining Good Relations with Parents

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of maintaining good relations with one's parents, even if they are not believers.

Narrated Asma 'bint Abi Bakr: During the period of the peace treaty of Quraish with Allah's Messenger , my mother, accompanied by her father, came to visit me, and she was a pagan. I consulted Allah's Messenger , "O Allah's Messenger ! My mother has come to me and she desires to receive a reward from me, shall I keep good relation with her?" He said, "Yes, keep good relation with her".
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَتْ قَدِمَتْ عَلَىَّ أُمِّي وَهْىَ مُشْرِكَةٌ فِي عَهْدِ قُرَيْشٍ، إِذْ عَاهَدُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمُدَّتِهِمْ، مَعَ أَبِيهَا، فَاسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ أُمِّي قَدِمَتْ عَلَىَّ، وَهْىَ رَاغِبَةٌ، أَفَأَصِلُهَا قَالَ ‏ "‏ نَعَمْ، صِلِيهَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of maintaining good relations with one's parents, even if they are not believers. It was narrated by Asma bint Abi Bakr, who asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ what she should do when her mother came to visit her and wanted a reward from her. The Prophet ﷺ advised her to keep good relations with her mother. This hadith teaches us that we should always respect our parents and maintain a strong relationship with them regardless of their beliefs or religion. We should also be generous and kind towards them in order to receive Allah’s blessings in return.
