Sunan Ibn Majah 930 (Book 5, Hadith 128) #30282
Turning to the Left After Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about not apportioning a part of prayer and instead turning to the left after finishing the prayer.

It was narrated that Aswad said: " 'Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) said: 'None of you should apportion within himself a part (of his prayer) thinking that it is a right of Allah upon him that he must only turn to his right to leave after finishing the prayer. I saw the Messenger of Allah and most of the time he turned to his left.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did as an example for us all in regards to praying; be mindful and respectful in our prayers; fulfill our obligations towards Allah with sincerity and respect for His commands.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one should act after they have finished their prayer. It was narrated by Aswad that Abdullah bin Masud said that no one should apportion a part of their prayer thinking it is a right of Allah upon them. Instead, they should turn to their left after finishing the prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ usually turned to his left when he finished his prayers. This teaches us that we must be mindful and respectful in our prayers and follow what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did as an example for us all. We must also remember that we are not doing Allah any favors by praying; rather it is an obligation upon us as Muslims and something we must do with sincerity and respect for Allah's commands.
