Avoiding Wastefulness in Ablution

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against being wasteful even when performing ablution.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that: The Messenger of Allah passed by Sa'd when he was performing ablution, and he said: 'What is this extravagance?' He said: 'Can there be any extravagance in ablution?' He said: 'Yes, even if you are on the bank of a flowing river'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful towards resources; practice moderation in all things including acts of worship like wudu; avoid being extravagant or wasting anything unnecessarily .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of avoiding extravagance and wastefulness, even when performing an act of worship such as ablution. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed by Sa'd while he was performing wudu, and noticed that he was using too much water. He asked Sa'd if there could be any extravagance in wudu, to which Sa'd replied no. The Prophet then said yes, even if you are on the bank of a flowing river. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our resources and not to take them for granted or use them excessively, especially when it comes to acts of worship like wudu. We should always strive to use only what is necessary and avoid wasting anything unnecessarily.
