Sunan Ibn Majah 395 (Book 1, Hadith 129) #29747
Washing Vessels Before Ablution

SUMMARY: One should not put their hand into the vessel they used for ablution until it has been washed, as one does not know where their hand spent the night.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'When anyone of you gets up from sleep and wants to perform ablution, he should not put his hand into the vessel he used for ablution until he has washed it, because he does not know where his hand spent the night or where he put it'." (One of the narrators) Abu Ishaq said: "What is correct is that it is narrated from Jabir, from Abu Hurairah".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about performing ablutions before prayer. It was narrated by Jabir and Abu Hurairah that the Prophet Muhammad said that when someone wakes up from sleep and wants to perform ablutions, they should not put their hand into the vessel they used for ablution until it has been washed. This is because one does not know where their hand spent the night or where they put it. The importance of this hadith is to emphasize cleanliness before prayer, as well as being mindful of what we do with our hands throughout the day. It teaches us to be aware of our actions and take responsibility for them in order to maintain a state of purity before engaging in any religious activity such as prayer or reciting Quran.
