Expressing Gratitude to Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) would say Takbir thrice upon returning from Jihad and express his gratitude to Allah for fulfilling His promise and helping His slave.

Narrated 'Abdullah: When the Prophet returned (from Jihad), he would say Takbir thrice and add, "We are returning, if Allah wishes, with repentance and worshipping and praising (our Lord) and prostrating ourselves before our Lord. Allah fulfilled His Promise and helped His Slave, and He Alone defeated the (infidel) clans".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful to Allah no matter what situation you are in or how successful your mission was

EXPLANATIONS:
When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ returned from a battle or mission of jihad he would say “Takbir” three times. This is an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great”. He would then thank God for fulfilling his promise and helping him in battle. He also thanked God for defeating the enemies of Islam. This hadith teaches us that we should always be grateful to Allah no matter what situation we are in or how successful our mission was. We should always remember that it is only through the grace of Allah that we can achieve anything in life and so it is important to thank Him for all our successes as well as failures.
