Jami at-Tirmidhi 3788 (Book 49, Hadith 187) #29449
The Importance of the Quran and Family

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is leaving behind two important things for his followers to hold on to, the Quran and his family, so that they will not be misguided after him.

Narrated Zaid bin Arqam, may Allah be pleased with both of them: that the Messenger of Allah said:"Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them, you shall not be misguided after me. One of them is greater than the other: The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the sky to the earth, and my family - the people of my house - and they shall not split until they meet at the Hawd, so look at how you deal with them after me".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is emphasizing the importance of two things that he is leaving behind for his followers - the Quran and his family. He states that if people hold fast to these two things then they will not be misguided after him. He also mentions that one is greater than the other - meaning that although both are important, the Quran should take precedence over all else as it contains guidance from God Himself. Furthermore, he mentions that even though his family may differ in opinion at times, they should still remain united until they meet at Hawd which refers to a pool in Heaven where believers will drink from on Judgment Day. This hadith serves as a reminder for us to prioritize our relationship with God through His book and also maintain unity within our families despite any differences we may have between us.
