Jami at-Tirmidhi 3786 (Book 49, Hadith 185) #29447
Guidance from the Quran and Family

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) left behind the Quran and his family as a guidance for people to not go astray.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: "I saw the Messenger of Allah during his Hajj, on the Day of 'Arafah. He was upon his camel Al-Qaswa, giving a Khutbah, so he said: 'O people! Indeed, I have left among you, that which if you hold fast to it, you shall not go astray: The Book of Allah and my family, the people of my house'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow divine guidance, follow examples set by Prophet Muhammed PBUH

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), during his Hajj on the Day of 'Arafah, gave a Khutbah in which he said that he has left behind two sources of guidance for people to not go astray - The Book of Allah, which is the Quran, and his family, which are the people of his house. This hadith emphasizes on how important it is to follow both these sources in order to stay away from going astray. It also shows us how much importance was given by Prophet Muhammad himself to both these sources. He wanted us to be guided by them so that we can lead our lives according to what Allah has commanded us in His book and what He has taught us through His beloved messenger's example.
