Seeking Refuge in Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith teaches us to seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of Hell, the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of false Masih and living and dying.

'Abdullah bin 'Abbas narrated: that the Messenger of Allah used to teach them this supplication as he used to teach them a Surat of the Quran: "O Allah, indeed, I seek refuge in you from the punishment of Hell, and from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the false Masih, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of living and dying. (Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannam, wa min 'adhabil-qabr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-masiḥid-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-maḥya wal-mamat)"

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek refuge in Allah during difficult times

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about seeking refuge in Allah from various trials and tribulations. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companions a supplication to recite when they are faced with difficult situations. In this supplication, we ask for protection from the punishment of hellfire, punishment of grave, trial of false masih or antichrist, as well as trial of living and dying. We should always remember that only Allah can protect us from all these things so we must turn to Him for help. We should also strive to live our lives according to His teachings so that He will be pleased with us and grant us His mercy. By doing this we can ensure that we will be safe both in this life and in the hereafter.
