The Power of Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that if one sincerely seeks forgiveness from Allah and repents to Him, Allah will forgive all of their sins no matter how many they are.

Abu Sa'eed (ra) narrated that : the Prophet said: "Whoever says, when he goes to his bed: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Magnificent the One whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him (Astaghfirullaha al-'Aẓim alladhi la ilaha illa huw, al-Ḥayyul-Qayyum, wa atubu ilaihi)’ three times, Allah shall forgive him his sins if they were like the foam of the sea, even if they were the number of leaves of the trees, even if they were the number of sand particles of Alij, even if they were the number of the days of the world".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make repentance part of your daily life

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the power of seeking forgiveness from Allah and repenting to Him. It is narrated by Abu Sa'eed that the Prophet said that if someone says "I seek forgiveness from Allah, [the Magnificent] the One whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him" three times before going to bed at night then all their sins will be forgiven by Allah even if they are as numerous as foam in the sea or leaves on trees or sand particles in Alij or days in a year. This hadith teaches us about how powerful repentance can be when it comes to being forgiven by God. It also shows us how merciful God is towards those who sincerely seek His forgiveness and repent for their wrongdoings. We should strive to make repentance a part of our daily lives so we can benefit from its blessings.
