Jami at-Tirmidhi 3334 (Book 47, Hadith 386) #28983
The Consequences of Sinning and Repentance

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the consequences of committing sins and how repentance can cleanse one's heart.

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Messenger of Allah said: "Verily, when the slave (of Allah) commits a sin, a black spot appears on his heart. When he refrains from it, seeks forgiveness and repents, his heart is polished clean. But if he returns, it increases until it covers his entire heart. And that is the 'Ran’ which Allah mentioned: 'Nay, but on their hearts is the Ran which they used to earn.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Refrain from committing sins , Seek forgiveness for your mistakes , Make sincere repentance for your wrongdoings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the consequences of sinning and how repentance can help cleanse one's heart. When a person commits a sin, it leaves a black spot on their heart. If they repent, seek forgiveness from Allah, and refrain from repeating the same mistake again, then their hearts will be polished clean. However, if they continue to commit sins without repenting for them then these black spots will increase until it covers their entire heart. This is what Allah mentions in the Quran when He says “Nay, but on their hearts is the Ran which they used to earn” [ 83:14 ]. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to stay away from sins as much as possible because it has serious consequences on our spiritual health. We should also remember that no matter how many times we have committed a sin in our lives, Allah will always accept our sincere repentance if we are truly remorseful for our actions and make an effort not to repeat them again in future.
