Sahih al-Bukhari 3008 (Book 56, Hadith 217) #2877
Kindness and Generosity of the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) showed kindness and generosity by giving his own shirt to a prisoner of war, Al-Abbas, who was undressed.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: When it was the day (of the battle) of Badr, prisoners of war were brought including Al-Abbas who was undressed. The Prophet looked for a shirt for him. It was found that the shirt of 'Abdullah bin Ubai would do, so the Prophet let him wear it. That was the reason why the Prophet took off and gave his own shirt to 'Abdullah. (The narrator adds, "He had done the Prophet some favor for which the Prophet liked to reward him")

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the kindness and generosity of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. During the battle of Badr, prisoners were brought in including Al-Abbas who was undressed. The Prophet ﷺ looked for a shirt for him and found that 'Abdullah bin Ubai's shirt would do so he gave it to him. He also took off his own shirt as a reward for 'Abdullah bin Ubai's favor towards him. This hadith teaches us that we should be kind and generous to others even if they are our enemies or those who have wronged us in some way. We should always strive to show mercy, compassion, and forgiveness towards others no matter what their situation is or how they have treated us in the past. It also shows us that we should be grateful for any favors done to us by others no matter how small they may seem at first glance because even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life.
