Distorting the Words of Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how people distorted the words of Allah and changed it from what was told to them.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah said, regarding Allah's saying: Enter the gate in prostration (2:58): "They entered dragging their behinds" meaning they distorted it, and with this chain, from the Prophet : But those who did wrong changed the word from that which had been told to them for another (2:59) - "They said: Habbah (a seed) in Sha'irah (in barely)".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي قَوْلِهِ ‏:‏ ‏(‏ادْخُلُوا الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا ‏)‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ دَخَلُوا مُتَزَحِّفِينَ عَلَى أَوْرَاكِهِمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَبِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ َ ‏:‏ ‏(‏فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا قَوْلاً غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ ‏)‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ قَالُوا حَبَّةٌ فِي شَعْرَةٍ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

This hadith talks about how people distort the words of Allah. It is narrated by Abu Hurairah that Prophet Muhammad said, regarding a verse in Quran, that people entered dragging their behinds meaning they distorted it. They changed the word from what was told to them for another. This shows us that we should be careful not to distort or change any words of God as it can lead us astray and away from His path. We should always strive to understand and follow His teachings as they are without changing anything in order to stay on His path and gain His blessings.
