Reciting the Words of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet recited a verse from the Quran.

Narrated Umm Salamah: "The Prophet would recite: 'Innahu 'Amila Ghaira Salih'."
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ كَانَ يَقْرَؤُهَا ‏(‏إِنَّهُ عَمِلَ غَيْرَ صَالِحٍ ‏)‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ قَدْ رَوَاهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ نَحْوَ هَذَا وَهُوَ حَدِيثُ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ وَرُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ أَيْضًا عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ ‏.‏ وَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ بْنَ حُمَيْدٍ يَقُولُ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ يَزِيدَ هِيَ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّةُ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى كِلاَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ عِنْدِي وَاحِدٌ وَقَدْ رَوَى شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ غَيْرَ حَدِيثٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّةِ وَهِيَ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ يَزِيدَ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ نَحْوُ هَذَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of reciting verses from the Quran. It was narrated by Umm Salamah that Prophet Muhammad used to recite a particular verse which translates to “Verily, He has succeeded who purifies himself”. This hadith emphasizes on how important it is for us to recite verses from the holy book and purify our souls in order to succeed in life. We should take time out of our day and dedicate it towards reading and understanding what Allah has revealed in his book so that we can benefit spiritually as well as physically.

The values taught by this hadith are patience, perseverance, faithfulness and humility. We must be patient when trying to understand what Allah has revealed in his book and persevere even if we don’t understand something right away. We must also have faith that whatever Allah has revealed is true and be humble enough to accept it without questioning it too much. These values will help us become better Muslims who are closer to God Almighty than ever before!
