Jami at-Tirmidhi 2779 (Book 43, Hadith 49) #28419
Seeking Permission Before Entering a Woman's Home

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of seeking permission from a woman's husband before entering her home.

Narrated Dhakwan: from the freed slave of 'Amr bin Al-'As that 'Amr bin Al-'As sent him to 'Ali seeking his permission to enter upon Asma bint Umais, so he permitted him. When he was finished from what he needed, the freed slave of 'Amr bin Al-'As asked about that, so he said: "Indeed the Prophet prohibited us - or - prohibited that we enter upon women, without the permission of their husbands".

This hadith emphasizes the importance of seeking permission before entering a woman's home. It was narrated by Dhakwan, who was the freed slave of 'Amr bin Al-'As. 'Amr bin Al-'As sent him to 'Ali to seek his permission to enter upon Asma bint Umais, and he granted it. After that, when Dhakwan asked about it, 'Ali reminded him that Prophet Muhammad prohibited entering upon women without their husbands' permission.
