The Consequences of Seeking Knowledge for Wrong Reasons

SUMMARY: Seeking knowledge for the purpose of showing off or to argue with fools will lead to punishment in the afterlife.

Narrated Ibn Ka'b bin Malik: from his father that he heard the Messenger of Allah saying: "Whoever seeks knowledge to contend with the scholars, or to use it to argue with the fools, and to have people's faces turn towards him, then he shall be admitted to the Fire".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek Knowledge Out Of A Genuine Desire To Learn And Benefit From It , Use Our Knowledge Wisely And Not Use It As A Tool To Belittle Others Or Make Them Feel Inferior .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against seeking knowledge for wrong reasons, such as to show off or argue with fools. It is narrated by Ibn Ka'b bin Malik from his father that he heard the Messenger of Allah saying that whoever seeks knowledge for these purposes will be admitted into the Fire in the afterlife. This hadith teaches us that we should not seek knowledge just to make ourselves look better than others, but rather we should seek it out of a genuine desire to learn and benefit from it. We should also use our knowledge wisely and not use it as a tool to belittle others or make them feel inferior. Doing so would only lead us towards punishment in the hereafter, which is something we must all strive to avoid at all costs.
