Jami at-Tirmidhi 2366 (Book 36, Hadith 63) #28000
Experiencing Difficulties in Allah's Cause

SUMMARY: Sa'd Bin Malik was the first Arab to shoot an arrow in Allah's cause and he experienced a difficult battle with the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) where there was no food but Al-Hubla and Samur, leaving droppings like sheep. Banu Asad then appeared wanting to teach him about religion, but he felt that his efforts would be wasted.

Sa'd Bin Malik said: "I was the first man among the Arabs to shoot an arrow in Allah's cause. I saw that we battled along with the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) and there was no food for us but Al-Hubla and this Samur, such that one of us would leave droppings like the droppings of a sheep. Then Banu Asad appeared wanting to instruct me in religion. I would be a loser and have wasted my efforts".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for Allah’s cause despite any hardships faced along the way .

EXPLANATIONS:
Sa'd bin Malik was one of the earliest Arabs to fight for Allah's cause and experienced a difficult battle alongside Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w). During this battle, there was no food available except Al-Hubla and Samur which left droppings like sheep when eaten by them. After this experience, Banu Asad wanted to teach him about religion but he felt that his efforts would have been wasted if he had done so at that time due to his lack of knowledge on the subject matter. This hadith teaches us that even though we may face difficulties while striving for Allah's cause, we should never give up on our faith or our commitment towards it as it is ultimately rewarding in the end despite any hardships faced along the way.
