Eating and Drinking with the Right Hand

SUMMARY: Eating and drinking with the right hand is encouraged as it is opposite to what Satan does.

Narrated Az-Zuhri: From Salim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah said: "When one of you eats, then let him eat with his right hand, and let him drink with his right hand, for indeed Ash-Shaitan eats with his left hand, and he drinks with his left hand".

QUICK LESSONS:
Eat and Drink with your right hand

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to eat and drink with our right hand. It is said that Satan eats and drinks with his left hand so we should do the opposite of him. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our actions in order to stay away from bad habits or influences. We should always strive to do good deeds in order to please Allah SWT. The Prophet Muhammad SAW also taught us that when we eat or drink, we should say “Bismillah” before doing so as a reminder that everything comes from Allah SWT. Therefore, this hadith reminds us not only about eating and drinking but also about being mindful of our actions in general.
