EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of praising Allah for the blessings He has bestowed upon us, such as clothing. It also speaks of seeking refuge in Him from any evil that may be associated with it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would often mention what type of garment he was wearing when he put it on, whether it was an Imamah, a Qamis or a Rida'. He would then say “Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasawtanihi, as’aluka khairuhu wa khaira ma suni’a lahu, wa a’udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni’a lahu" which translates to “O Allah! For You is the praise; You have clothed me; I ask You for its good and the good for which it was made; and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil for which it was made". This hadith teaches us to always remember to thank Allah whenever we receive something new or beneficial in our lives. We should also seek His protection against any harm that may come with these things.
