The Virtue of Ribat

SUMMARY: Guarding the frontier for a day in Allah's cause is better than thousand days doing other than that.

Narrated Abu Salih, the Freed slave of Uthman : "I heard Uthman while on the Minbar saying: 'I did not inform you about a Hadith I had heard from the Messenger of Allah , out of dismay that you might part from me. Then it occurred to me that I should narrate to you so that one may choose from these matters accordingly. I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: "(Ribat) Guarding the frontier for a day in Allah's cause is better in status than thousand days doing other than that'." Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib. Muhammad bin Ism'ail said: "Abu Salih, the freed slave of 'Uthman's name is Burkan".

QUICK LESSONS:
Dedicate oneself to serving God and His cause; Strive to serve God and His cause with dedication; Engage in activities which are beneficial for our spiritual growth; Spend time on activities which will bring us closer to Allah SWT; Be selfless when it comes to serving others
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of ribat, which is guarding the frontier for a day in Allah’s cause. It was narrated by Abu Salih, who was a freed slave of Uthman. According to this hadith, one day spent on ribat is better than spending thousands of days doing something else. This means that it is more rewarding and beneficial to dedicate oneself to serving God and His cause rather than engaging in worldly activities. The Prophet Muhammad also taught us that those who guard their frontiers are considered as martyrs even if they do not die while performing this duty. Therefore, we should strive to serve God and His cause with dedication and sincerity so that we can be rewarded with eternal bliss in the hereafter.
