Jami at-Tirmidhi 1469 (Book 18, Hadith 7) #27057
Hunting with Respect

SUMMARY: When hunting, one should remember to mention Allah's name and if the animal is found dead, it can be eaten unless it was found in water.

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim: "I asked the Messenger of Allah about hunting, so he said: 'Mention Allah's Name when you shoot your arrow. Then, if you find it dead, eat from it, unless you found that it has fallen in (some body of) water. Then do not eat it, for you do not know if the water killed it, or your arrow'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Mention Allah's Name before shooting an arrow while hunting

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we hunt animals, we should remember to mention Allah's name before shooting our arrow. If the animal is found dead after shooting the arrow, then it can be eaten unless it was found in water. In this case, one should not eat the animal as they do not know if the water killed it or their arrow did. This hadith also teaches us to respect animals and treat them with kindness even when hunting them for food. We must remember that all life comes from Allah and He has given us permission to hunt animals for food but only within certain limits set by Him.
